Prof. B. M. L. D. B. Suriyagoda

Professor B.M.L.D.B. Suriyagoda is a distinguished academic and researcher affiliated with the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. With over two decades of national and international experience in teaching and research, he is widely recognized for his expertise in Agronomy, Plant Nutrition, Crop Physiology, Crop Modelling, and Bio-Statistics.

Professor Suriyagoda’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Peradeniya in 2003. He further pursued advanced studies in Japan, earning a Master of Science in Agriculture from Saga University in 2006, and a Master of Science in Bio-Statistics from the University of Peradeniya in 2008. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Western Australia in 2011.

In 2004, he joined the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, as a Lecturer. He was appointed as a Senior Lecturer in 2011 and promoted to a Professor in 2016. Additionally, he serves as an Adjunct Researcher at the School of Plant Biology, University of Western Australia. Professor Suriyagoda has also contributed as a visiting lecturer at numerous public universities and higher education institutions in Sri Lanka, highlighting his commitment to academic development.

An accomplished researcher, Professor Suriyagoda has authored over 75 scientific articles in prestigious journals, including Field Crops Research, Plant, Cell & Environment, Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment, and Trends in Plant Science. His work has received significant recognition, accumulating over 2,500 citations. He has been honored with multiple accolades, including Presidential Awards for his scientific publications and the Research Excellence Award (Tier 4*) by the University of Peradeniya in 2020.

Professor Suriyagoda is actively involved in editorial roles, serving as Consulting Editor for the Journal of Plant and Soil and Editorial Board Member for the Annals of the Sri Lanka Department of Agriculture (ASDA) (2016, 2020, and 2021) and Tropical Agriculturalist since 2022.

Through his dedication to research and academia, Professor Suriyagoda has made significant contributions to advancing agriculture in Sri Lanka and on the global stage. His unwavering commitment continues to inspire and shape the future of agricultural science.
